I KILL MY HEART is Tomoko Kawase’s 3rd album as Tommy heavenly6, and it was released on April 29th, 2009. The album reached #9 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, and has sold 14,377 copies.

I realize this review is a tad late (talk about 2 months late!) But after hearing what was put before me, I wanted to put this off as much as possible. And since I was running short on things to review, I figured now’s the time. Anyways, now about the review. Since everything on this piece of shit sounds about the same, I’m just going to summarize it in one full paragraph, because I honestly don’t know how one could review each individual track when it comes to something like this.

After her decision to release to best-of albums for both of her persona’s (which I thought was a little overdue) Tomoko Kawase graces us with this icky and nasty piece of material. Described as a “concept album” Kawase decided to tone things down a bit for her aggressive ego and making everything sound exactly the same in the end. From the monotone guitar riffs, to the boring snoozefest of the drums, Kawase really outdid herself on this one. She even tried to add a little “variety” in tempo, with songs like Do You Know My Heart? and Shut Up, but in the end it sounds just the same as Wait For Me There and Sad End To a Fairy Tale. I don’t think I’ve ever been this disappointed when it comes to an album and I never thought it would be Tommy heavenly6 that would disappoint me this much. I hated this album SO much, that it gets my lowest rating EVER, beating capsule’s FLASH BACK album but half a star. Oh, and I’m wondering, how the HELL did it sell so much? Plus, I’m still laughing about the fact that her contract expired with her label shortly after this album’s release. Karma? Oh yea.

Tomoko Kawase’s PAPERMOON was released on December 10th, 2008. It’s her 10th single as Tommy heavenly6 and it charted at #10 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, selling a total of 11,838 copies. The title track was used as the 2nd opening theme for the anime Soul Eater.

Wow. If there was a song to blow me away, it’d definitely be PAPERMOON. This song is so deliciously sinister, with it’s LOUD guitar riffs and pounding drums. heavenly6 has never sounded better, flat out. Her voice works really well with the song and I was impressed, extremely. There’s really not much to write about, this song is just too awesome for words!

The B-side is kind of like a more punk-rock continuation of the A-side. Ruby Shoes proves to be an equally good B-side. I’m gonna flat out say that PAPERMOON is by far heavenly6’s best single thus far.

PS: I’M NOT REVIEWING I KILL MY HEART BECAUSE IT SUCKS REALLY, REALLY BAD. K THXBAI.

Tomoko Kawase’s Heavy Starry Heavenly was released on March 7th, 2007. It’s her 2nd album as Tommy heavenly6 and it charted at #9 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, selling a total of 33,527 copies.

Kicking off heavenly6’s sophomore album is the single prior to the album, Heavy Starry Chain. This track still gets the title of her most aggressive track yet and it’s still one of my favourites. This song also acts as a good opener for what’s to come.

Our first ~new~ track is the very contradicting stay away from me. The beginning starts out sweet but it’s full of pure hatred! From the lyrics, right down to the aggressive guitar riffs, this song is very spiteful and you can tell that heavenly6 really wants this person to stay away from her! As I said the lyrics are also sweet at the beginning but turn into pure hatred: “Don’t you wanna enjoy with me?” to “Stay away from me! I hate you!”

Our first single this era was I’m Gonna SCREAM+. This track is definitely one of heavenly6’s better songs. The riffs are phenominal and she shows off some amazing vocals.

How about some moar angst? D< my bloody knee-high-socks (which is my favourite track off the album, mind you ;D) adds some more aggressiveness to the album (as if there wasn’t enough!) I thought this song was put together really well and heavenly6 has definitely got her hard-rock ego down. She almost makes it look easy! This track also features some funny lyrics like “What the hell! It’s not funny!”

DOOR MAT rolls in as a more laid back punk rock track (laid back meaning a LOT slower and not as in your face as the previous tracks.) This song talks about taking charge of your life and not being a pushover, which I thought was interesting but nice.

The album version of Lollipop Candy♥BAD♥girl (previously her very spirited 10 minutes and 31 seconds, Halloween song) removes all of the Halloween elements of the song (like the circus-like music and such as) and it melds all the gritty punk rock parts into one song. I thought this was a nice addition to the album and I felt it fit better without all of the Halloween stuff, because throwing the original in the middle of this album would be just plain silly!

Our first song in the very long older track phase is THE CASE from her I♥XMAS single. This track can be described very simply: short and very sweet. Though I would’ve preferred Always Somethin’ New in place of this song, but it’s whatever.

Another B-side! This time from her Pray single. ABOUT U is one of heavenly6’s more laid back tracks, while still having the signature heavy guitar riffs. Thought it’s slow, it has a pretty nice chorus.

Half way there! Another holiday release, but this time it’s the full version. ;D I♥XMAS is another laid back track but instead the song’s about Christmas. (lol) On a side note, this was another one of my favourites this era.

Our second single of the era, Pray, was probably the least impressive. Not that it’s bad, it just doesn’t stand out as much as the other tracks. But, in any case, it’s a welcome addition to the album.

Finally. The last old track on the album, and another B-side. GOING 2 MY WAY!, originally from the I’m Gonna SCREAM+ single, is another one of those angsty songs. The lyrics still make no sense to me, but the song is still good.

Our final new track and the final track on the album is Lucky me. This song goes back to the upbeat, fast-paced, aggressive tone as the earlier songs had. This song also has some nice lyrics behind it. Talking about the past and saying “goodbye.” Perfect song to end the album, lyrically, and instrumentally.

Heavy Starry Heavenly proved to be an amazing album. Though it was very B-side heavy, each track brought it’s own style up to the plate. Now that I’ve heard the better songs of Kawase’s heavenly6 ego, I’m full prepared for her new concept album I KILL MY HEART. I’m sure it’ll be a good one!

Tomoko Kawase’s Heavy Starry Chain was released on February 7th, 2007. It’s her 8th single as Tommy heavenly6 and it charted at #8 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, selling 8,565 copies.

Out of the 5 singles released this era, Heavy Starry Chain is definately my favourite. I dunno why. I just really like the aggressive riffs and the somewhat fast-pacedness of the song. Being that it’s so aggressive, it’s the closest thing to J-rock that heavenly6 has done, which is probably another reason why I like it! heavenly6 continues to show strong vocals throughout the song, especially during the amazing bridge.

Always Somethin’ New is almost as aggressive, but is heavy on the percussion than the A-side was. This is another strong B-side from heavenly6 and my favourite this era. heavenly6 continues to show strong vocals as she delves deeper into her punk-rock alter-ego!

Tomoko Kawase’s I♥XMAS was released on December 6th, 2006. It’s her 7th single as Tommy heavenly6 and it charted at #29 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, and it has sold 9,116 copies. The title track was used as the theme song for the TV show Kayou Gold.

Here we have another spirited holiday release from heavenly6. I♥XMAS is obviously about Christmas, and I think it represents Christmas perfectly. Though it may seem a little heavy in the guitar riffs, the song still remains true and lightens things up with the vocals and the ad-libbing in the background. Perfect song for Christmas, for those who don’t like all the giddy, poppy Christmas tracks.

Complete opposite for THE CASE. This track reverts back to heavenly6’s normal punk-rock style. This song is pretty catchy and is a perfect contrast to the light-heartedness of the A-side. All in all, this song is short and sweet.

Tomoko Kawase’s Lollipop Candy♥BAD♥girl was released on October 11th, 2006. It’s her 6th single as Tommy heavenly6 and it debuted at #12 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, and it has sold a total of 11,686 copies.

Oh Tommy. You and your spirited holiday releases. In honor of Halloween, Tomoko Kawase has graced us with Lollipop Candy♥BAD♥girl, a sweet song that’s tribute to Hallow’s Eve, and it’s a whopping 10:31 seconds long! Not many people can pull it off, but she of course, can, and did. This song has a few different sections, and I’m gonna do my best to try and describe them. The opening starts us off on kind of a sinister and creepy note. Thunder crashes, and the music, overall, is just plain creepy. Then it transitions into a carnival-esque sound, with marching band percussion and acordion. After that, it turns into an AWESOME rock/grunge tune. I like how Tommy adjusted her vocals to the style of song: cute to aggressive. Then it repeats the first style and the second style one more time. and in between it has kind of a sad sounding orgel tune. As it heads into the grunge part again, the guitar riffs become even LOUDER and I thought that was the icing on the cake. The transitions between styles are sloppy though, but that’s easy to overlook. As I said before, only Tommy can pull of something like this. Anyone else and it would just sound silly.

The short version of Lollipop Candy♥BAD♥girl takes out the creepy and goes directly into the first part of the lyrics. It takes out the two Halloween parts and keeps the awesome grunge parts, in the ending it pretty much just cuts the song in half, taking the Halloween segments with it. I quite prefer the original, however.

Tomoko Kawase’s Pray was released on July 5th, 2006. It’s her 5th single as Tommy heavenly6 and debuted at #10 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, and has sold a total of 31,282 copies. The title track was used as the 1st opening theme for the anime Gintama.

Now Pray was the song that made me a true Tommy heavenly6 fan. I was still kinda new to J-pop a while back and was a nub when it came to CORRECT names of songs and who they came from. Anyways, while this is the song that got me into Th6, I definately prefer I’m Gonna SCREAM+, but Pray is still a fun song to listen to with it’s catchy riffs and upbeat drums.

ABOUT U is MUCH slower than the A-side and is pretty good. I like that it’s kinda heavier, too. I thought it was a little too slow for my tastes though, but it makes for a good B-side.

This single ALSO includes another Melancholic guitar version. This time it’s of Lost my pieces from her self title debut album. I definitely prefer the brazen beats and the heavy guitar riffs of the original, but this guitar version is nice and Tommy sounds more refined.

Tomoko Kawase’s I’m Gonna SCREAM+ was released on June 7th, 2006. It’s her 4th single as Tommy heavenly6 and it debuted at #22 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, selling a total of 9,907 copies.

Ahhh. I LOVE Tommy’s heavier punk rock songs. I’m Gonna SCREAM+ is the perfect example of that. There’s amazing guitar riffs, and Tommy definately delivers in overal vocals. Despite being so heavy, this song is also really catchy. I definately recommend this song.

GOING 2 MY WAY! opens with really low bass, then the heavy electric guitar kicks in. This song is definately more laid back and isn’t as high-velocity as the A-side, but it’s still really good, despite not being as loud and in your face.

The final track is the Meloncholic guitar version of +Gothic pink+, a song from her debut album. I remember the original being really loud and crazy, but this song shows it in a whole new light… or dark depending on who you are. I liked that is was just mainly acoustic guitar, with the orgel-sounding instrument at the beginning and after the chorus. Tommy also gets to show off her voice without all that background.
