Kalafina’s Seventh Heaven was released on March 4th, 2009, the same day as their 4th single Lacrimosa. It’s their debut album.

Setting the overall mood for the album, is the very pretty overture. This whole track sounds really ethereal and echoey. The girls are singing a nice tune that’s very soothing and I would’ve loved a full track out of this.

Now we kick things into hig08h gear! Our first ~new~ track is the highly addictive love come down. This is a whole new style for Kalafina, as it’s more dance-oriented and has more synthetic beats and things. I like the whole futuristic sound this song has and the fact that it has filtered electric guitar fading in and out. The chorus is the best part! It’s very infectious and the girls sound amazing together. Especially when they go “Coooome overrrrr.” Definately one of my favourite new tracks. On a side note, this song kinda reminded me of the Forest Temple music in the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. xD Like a more futuristic one. Maybe it’s just me. >>;

Natsu no Ringo enters the slower phase. This song is true Kajiuran folk at its best. With the flutes and the acoustic guitar, as while as the tribal percussions. Each girl sings with amazing enchantment and I can’t help but be entranced by their singing. The chorus is really nice too, when the members of the group exchange lines back and froth.

Ohmahguuuuh. Another awesome rock track from Kalafina! Mata Kaze ga Tsuyokunatta is pure rock at it’s best. There’s no hint of orchestral-ness in this song, except for the awesome cello that actually fits amazingly into the song’s arrangement. Each member sings with great vigor (and Wakana gets her amazing opera parts during random parts of the song) and I think they pulled this song off really well, especially since it’s a little more aggressive than they’re used to.

Yuki Kajiura doing dance beats? Delicious. Ongaku also has kind of a rock twist, despite being a dancey-er song. This time it’s mostly Keiko, (the girl with the deepest voice) singing and her voice is filtered. Don’t worry the other two get their fair share, joining Keiko in the verses, providing really good back up.091

One of my other favourite tracks is Ashita no Keshiki. Here we have Wakana started us out and let me say she sounds radiant among the simple orgel music. The song gets more interesting as it progresses, adding some acoustic guitar in the second part of the first verse and adding some snare drum for the chorus and also for the rest of the song. Hikaru also sounds wonderful with the amazing instrumental. Wakana is more in the background this time, but that’s okay, because you can actually tell she’s there. xD The additional flute at about 3:20 was also a welcome addition to the songs arrangement.

And seeing us off is the title track seventh heaven. This song is really dreamy and absolutely gorgeous. Everyone sounds wonderful and I like how they back each other up in their singing. After a minute and forty-five seconds some beautiful strings come in as well as a slow-mid-tempo beat comes in. I thought this was a really pretty way to end the song and also the perfect way to end it.

Oh lordy. I think Seventh Heaven is my favourite album of 2009 so far. I mean Kalafina is such an amazing group and they have an amazing producer. Their voices are extremely soothing and their harmonizations are top-notch, as well as their songs. I really, truly hope Yuki Kajiura keeps producing them because they’re one of the only Kajiuran groups that I’ve been like OMG about. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this album to EVERYONE!
