GIRL NEXT DOOR’s Jounetsu no Daishou / ESCAPE was released on November 19th, 2008. It’s their 3rd single and it debuted at #3 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, selling 22,117 copies in its first week. The first A-side was used as the opening theme for the dorama Giragira.
Jounetsu no Daishou is a lot like GIRL NEXT DOOR’s previous endeavours, but this time it’s a lot slower and even features some piano. But like I said, this doesn’t really show off anything new. It’s still the same sort-of eurotrance style and it still remains addicting. It’s starting to get a little old though, to be honest. Hopefully their self-titled debut album (which drops on Christmas Eve) will show off something new. Ironically, this is my favourite A-side. x:
The second A-side, ESCAPE, is a lot like Guuzen no Kakuritsu (their debut single). Heck, it’s almost like they combined all of GIRL NEXT DOOR’s songs into one. But let me say, this is a pretty good song. It’s about the same tempo as the first A-side, but is a lot more upbeat sounding. Their style is getting a little bit repetitive, I’ll admit. But their one of my faves for this year.
The Shinichi Osawa Remix of Jounetsu no Daishou is pretty gritty. it makes the song completely electronica and it’s kinda awful really. It really ruined the song for me since, like I said, it’s my favourite A-side.
Each of GIRL NEXT DOOR’s singles features an ice cream mix of some sort, usually the A-side (or first A-side.) And they usually kind of ruin them, making them sound dance club-ish. The one for Jounetsu no Daishou is no exception. It takes, once again, a good song and ruins it. I want to shoot whoever makes their remixes. D: <
Overall Grade:

and to think Shinichi Osawa did SING A SONG baffles me to no end.
