D’espairsRay’s BRILLIANT was released on May 14th, 2008. It’s their 9th single and charted at #30 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart, selling 3,476 copies in its first week.

FINALLY SOME MALE ACTION HERE. D: < (and by action I mean singing. GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER.) BRILLIANT explodes with guitar and percussion along with a noise that almost sounds sparkly. I’ve always liked lead singer HIZUMI’s voice, it doesn’t sound the same like a lot of male J-rocker voices (for others that are different: see Miyavi and Versailles.) Anyway, yeah I really prefer this style over their usual hard rock stuff. On a side note, I’d like to comment on the cover. I think it’s absolutely gorgeous. I almost thought it was a diamond but I looked closer and it was cracked glass.

Cocoon is the complete opposite. Screamo. HIZUMI’s voice sounds really aggressive, like he wants to eat someone’s face off. D< It sounds really cool. I like the guitar a lot in this song. The overall tone of the song is completely different. (Oh, and he doesn’t scream the whole time, he mostly sings.)

Overall Grade:
